Salt! It’s a rock that makes things taste better, what’s not to love? This recipe takes all my favorite savory ingredients and combines them into one kickass seasoning that is a perfect all-purpose flavor enhancer. It’s become a staple in our house, and it’s great for pretty much anything you’d add a bit of salt to! We’ve used it on chicken, pasta, pizza crust, mixed into butter, potatoes, and pretty much anything else you can think of!
Here’s how you make it!
Ingredients:
1½ cups coarse kosher salt
3-4 sprigs of fresh thyme
3-4 sprigs of fresh rosemary
3-4 sprigs of fresh sage
3-4 cloves of garlic (peeled)
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 170°F (or the lowest it will go if it doesn’t go all the way down to 170)
Carefully remove herbs from their stems and pour leaves, salt, and garlic into a food processor. Pulse until garlic and herbs are incorporated and there are no large chunks.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and pour salt mixture onto the lined tray. Spread out the salt into a uniform layer, then place in the oven
Allow the salt to bake, checking and stirring in 30 minute intervals until it has dried (usually within 2hrs) You will likely need to break it up a few times as it will cake together a bit.
Once dried, allow to cool and store in an airtight container.
aaand hat’s it! This one is super simple and there’s lots of room to get creative. You could add other herbs or ingredients like lemon zest and pepper flakes.
